Sodium iodide is one of the most widely used scintillator materials, especially in high-temperature seismic-resistant oilfield logging, high-energy physics, radiation detection, environmental surveying, and nuclear medicine, etc.
The greatest light output among scintillators, convenient emission range coincident with maximum efficiency region of photomultiplier(PMT) with bialkali photocathodes, the possibility of large-size crystals production, and their low prices compared with other scintillation materials compensate to a great extent for the main disadvantage of NaI(Tl), namely, the hygroscopicity, on account of which NaI(Tl) can be used only in hermetically sealed assemblies.
It matches the photomultiplier tube very well and has excellent compatibility with the back-end electronic circuit.
Support custom-sized single crystals and hot-forged crystals. If there are special sizes, also provide customization.
Advantages
No significant self absorption of scintillation light
Available in single crystal & polycrystalline form
Emission spectrum well matched with the sensitivity curve of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs)
